Learning Centres

"Independence means that learners are able to examine and monitor their own behaviors
in the learning process." Regie Routman, 1994

How do I evaluate and monitor student work?
Learning Centres provide a perfect environment for authentic assessment since the classroom is alive with learning, activity, and opportunities for individual or group assessment. Evaluation is vital to programming - knowing where students are coming from will enable you to plan where they are going. Centre time provides the teacher with an opportunity to monitor student work and conference with students. Observe all relevant data for each student and look for patterns of behavior and evidence of student growth.
